Jim Garvey, former Resident Artist at 40th St. Air, graduated from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and University of Pennsylvania in 2007-09. Since graduating, Jim’s focus has been installations and public artworks, fusing multiple mediums in unique visual and audible creations. Jim collaborated with flower shop artists, MODA botanica, painting a multimedia installation for the Philadelphia Flower Show 2010. During his residency at 40th St. Air, Jim completed several community-oriented projects including a mural at the Lea Middle School in West Philadelphia, and teaching an after school program about kinetic sculpture at Neighborhood Bike Works, culminating with a sculpture for the 2011 Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby. Currently Jim Garvey is curating at VWVoffka Gallery, teaching after-school workshops for youth in Philadelphia, and continuing to fabricate and exhibit his artworks and installations.
